Are you looking to add some fun and excitement to your next event? Karaoke is the perfect add-on, whether you’re having a wedding reception, rehearsal dinner, Anniversary, Corporate event, or just a party.

When Karaoke is added on to your event, I usually bring a 13″ TV monitor facing the singer. I also bring a 32″ Flat Screen HDTV facing the audience so everyone else can follow along with the words.

If you really want to go all out, I can bring a large 5′ x 7′ screen and projector so everyone can see the words even better.

New for 2009, will be computerized Karaoke. I will have all of my Karaoke songs on my new DJ Power Extreme Computer. It will put an end to missing or skippingĀ  cdg’s. I’ll also be able to get singers in and out of a rotation quicker.

If you’ve never tried Karaoke before, my best advice is to pick a slow to medium tempo song, something you’re very familiar with. You know the one that you like to sing in the shower to? Yes, that one!! Once you’ve come up to the stage and hold onto the microphone, you’ll have some sort of familiarity with the song and your confidence level will be much better. Now, all you have to do is watch the countdown bars and sing-a-long as the words highlight in. You’re a star!!

Unfortunately, Karaoke is often associated with drinking and getting drunk. But that is simply not the case for many events I do. I have added Karaoke to many events where alcohol isn’t served and people have just as much fun. In fact, singers are much better when not drinking than when they’re drunk.

To get the party started, no one likes to go first. No need to worry!!! I have a variety of songs I can sing to break the ice. My favorite is singing Elvis songs, as he’s had a huge impact on my musical aspirations as I grew up listening to him. I, nor anyone else, can sing or move like him. I can do a pretty good impersonation of him, though!!! How many singing DJ’s do you know out there?

Looking for a new twist to Karaoke? Here’s a few ideas to add more fun to Karaoke:

Kamikaze Karaoke

100 of the most popular Karaoke songs are put into a hat. Singers must reach into the hat to pick out a song. Once they pick out the song, they must sing it to the best of their ability. This can add a lot of fun to your event. It usually adds a lot of laughs as that’s what Karaoke is all about…having fun!!

Another twist on Kamikaze Karaoke is that someone in the room will pick out a singer and a song for them to sing. The twist is that the singer doesn’t know what they’ll be singing until they get up on stage. After that person is done singing, he/she will pick out another person or group and a song for them to sing. Anyone at the party could be up next!!

Idol Karaoke

Idol Karaoke is based on American Idol. Participants can pick out their favorite Karaoke song. A panel of three judges will give their reviews after the singer is done. Judges will also rate the singers on a scale of 1-10 based on vocals and stage presence. The singer with the highest score will be declared the winner.

Theme Night Karaoke

Theme Night Karaoke features songs from a certain era, such as songs of the ’50’s, ’60’s, ’70’s, Motown, ’80’s and so on. Singers will only pick out and sing songs based on the genre of music selected for the party.

Icon Karaoke

Icon Karaoke will feature just one Icon from the past decades. Singers will only pick songs performed by their favorite musical icon. For instance, the night might feature songs by just one artist such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Buffett, Neil Diamond, James Taylor, Rolling Stones, Madonna, Michael Jackson.

Gong Show Karaoke

Do you remember the Gong Show from the 1970’s, where people performed crazy acts in front of a panel of judges? If they were really bad, the “Gong” bell would ring, ending their performance. If the person was good, they would get through their skitĀ  and be praised by the judges. That is the same premise for Gong Show Karaoke. It can add a lot of fun to your party!!

Karaoke can be a fantastic addition for your next event!!
